Honyee Media’s Chinese version of BBC’s Top Gear launched its first five episodes of the second season with a combined audience of 217 million across TV and online.
The show had launched on Shanghai Dragon TV on 19 October and held the title as the number one programme in its time slot across all cable and pay-TV channels nationwide, gathering an average weekly audience of 9 million. The fifth episode had attracted over 11 million views. Top Gear China had also received 173 million total views across 8 of China’s largest online video websites.
Honyee Media had launched the first series in late 2014. BBC Worldwide distributes Top Gear to over 200 territories worldwide, and has licensed the format for local production in seven countries to date including the U.S., China, South Korea, France and Italy.
