Allenby
TNT Brazil, a Turner Broadcasting System TV channel specialised in movies and TV series, has now licensed Armoza Formats’ gritty drama series Allenby. TNT Brazil’s adaptation of Allenby will mark their first large-scale original Brazilian production and will comprise an 8-episode season, locally known as Rua Augusta, after a major street in Sao Paulo known for its intense nightlife. The adaptation has a planned air date of late 2015, with production set to start in the beginning of 2015.
Previously aired on Israel’s Channel 10, Allenby (produced by Inosan Productions) was created by Gadi Taub and is based on his best-selling novel. With viewership on Israel’s Channel 10 reaching 84% above average share, it was also a hit with local critics who heralded the show as “socially relevant and highly compelling”.
Allenby (60’) is an addictive psychological drama that takes place on Allenby Street, in the depths of Tel Aviv’s night life. When a beautiful and alluring stripper falls victim to an aggressive assault, she is plunged into a nightmare that only she can put right. This show gives a gripping insight into the secret underworld of a strippers’ bar and gives access to a world that is famously restricted, revealing complex characters that live their lives on suspicion, venality and desire. Safety is a precious commodity on Allenby Street: trust no one.
Rogério Gallo, Vice President of Movies & Series of Turner International do Brasil, said, “The similarities between Allenby Street in Israel and Rua Augusta are magnificent; both are a part of each city’s history and the center of a sizzling nightlife, while also carrying the downsides of the nightlife, like sex, drugs and heavy rock ‘n’ roll. These are great ingredients for a remarkable TV show. With this production, Turner strengthens its commitment to bring the best TV formats to the Brazilian audience, while always adapting it with a ‘local flavor’ for our audiences.”
Avi Armoza, CEO of Armoza Formats, said, “We are thrilled that ‘Allenby’ has been chosen by TNT for their first original big-series production and we look forward to seeing its success in Israel repeated in Brazil. ‘Allenby’s’ unique story and perspective portrays the lives of the characters with an innate realism and immerses the viewers in a deep and meaningful way.”
