Distributor First Hand Films has finalised a deal with German prodco Epoche Media Production, acquiring worldwide distribution rights to probably one of the most comprehensive Hitler biographies to date – the documentary series The Hitler Chronicles – Blueprint For Dictators.
In the run up to MIP TV, First Hand Films has also already pre-sold the series to The History Channel on Foxtel in Australia and SRC (French speaking CBC) in Québec.
Produced in HD and featuring more than 40% never before seen gripping footage with 50% in colour, The Hitler Chronicles – Blueprint For Dictators (available as 4 x 50’/13×50’ for TV and 1 x 195’/1 x 460’ for festivals/theatrical), tracks Hitler’s life from cradle to grave, but with a unique contemporary interpretation. The Chronicles relate the life of the dictator, as it interacts with and responds to Austrian and German society, as well as the national and international political trends and events during the first half of the 20th century.
The Chronicles make no attempt at a speculative psychological interpretation of Hitler’s actions, rise to power and criminal acts based on his background and the social circumstances, but instead see the ‘Führer’ as a willingly accepted ‘projection’ of a large part of the German nationalist circles. In these traditionally authoritarian and ultimately ‘apolitical’ sections of society, Hitler’s actions and those of his followers express and highlight a latent chauvinistic consciousness, which ultimately led to the catastrophe of World War II and the Holocaust.
