yes Studios has announced that it has extended its relationship with Arte by licensing all three seasons of its hugely popular series Shtisel (33 x 45’) to the broadcaster for launch on arte.tv later this week, on 19th July.
This latest deal follows the announcement earlier this year that Arte acquired yes Studio’s award-winning comedy series Bloody Murray (9 x 45’).
Shtisel—which stars Michael Aloni (The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem, 8200), Dovale Glickman (Oslo, Laces), Neta Riskin (Ghosts of Beirut, The Spy), and Emmy Award-nominee Shira Haas (Unorthodox, Night Therapy)—follows the daily lives and loves of the extended Shtisel clan, an argumentative, ultra-Orthodox family living in modern-day Jerusalem.
Created and written by Ori Elon and Yehonatan Indursky, the series became a global phenomenon when it first aired on Netflix, offering unique insights into Haredi society. Shtisel is produced by yes TV and Abot Hameiri Barkai for yes TV. The series won 17 Israeli Academy Awards, including Best Drama Series, Best Script, Best Actor (twice) and Best Actress.
Sharon Levi, managing director at yes Studios comments: “We are pleased to continue our collaboration with Arte and are excited that Shtisel will be made available to audiences across France and Germany later this week.
“With its endearing characters and fascinating look into everyday life in an ultra-orthodox community, Shtisel continues to prove a hit wherever it is shown. It tends to quickly develop a strong local fanbase, with most viewers keen to binge-watch this addictive TV series. We are confident that this experience will be repeated with this latest deal and look forward to seeing how well it performs on arte.tv.”
