Generation Iron, the premier New York City-based global digital media company focused on health, fitness, bodybuilding and strength sports, will debut its latest original documentary Robby Robinson’s Blueprint, chronicling the life story of the iconic bodybuilder, on June 28th on top streaming platforms, including Apple TV, Amazon Prime and Google Play in all English-speaking territories.
A trailblazing bodybuilder who has remained relatively silent in recent years, Robby Robinson has become an indispensable part of the story of bodybuilding’s Golden Age. One of the first ever black men to be featured on covers of bodybuilding magazines, Robinson was known as “The Black Prince,” he has starred in Pumping Iron and is also well-known for using his platform to advocate for equal rights in the sport.
Directed by award-winning documentarian Vlad Yudin, Robby Robinson’s Blueprint chronicles his entire life story from his difficult childhood and battling racism in The South in the 1960s, to being diagnosed with sickle cell anemia and recounting his illustrious career. The film explores Robinson’s career successes, including winning Mr. America, IFBB Mr. World, Mr. Universe and Masters Olympia titles, among others. The film reveals the man behind the myth and muscle; a complicated yet inspiring figure in the sport.
“I’m very grateful that Robby Robinson allowed our cameras into his world after such a long time away from the spotlight,” comments Yudin. “With this film, we not only shed light on Robby’s story, we also were able to preserve his blueprint for success for generations to come.”
After making a name for himself in the sport, Robinson surprisingly receded from the public eye. He would rarely give an interview to modern bodybuilding media and is often left out of the conversation when discussing the Golden Era greats. Yet, his passion for bodybuilding remained and at currently in his late 70s, he holds a physique that would be the envy of many far his junior.
The documentary also follows Robinson’s today and the surprisingly powerful friendship he formed with entrepreneur Tim Taylor. Taylor hired Robinson for a four-day training session that led to a genuine friendship with the notoriously private man. In fact, Robinson had never let anyone inside his private life until meeting Taylor.
Through their bond and trust, Robinson transformed Taylor’s life and physique at 56 years old using his transformative fitness program. Taylor documented their training conversations into a journal every day and created the 6-Step Blueprint, resulting in 50 years of Robinson’s wisdom and knowledge, organized into a training system like never before.
Taylor believes that in bringing this 6-Step Blueprint to the public eye. it will solidify the legacy of Robinson – the final crowning achievement that he can leave behind long after he is gone. Acting as a sort of window into the true world of Robby Robinson – audiences will witness a never-before-seen side of the legend, and the mastery, willpower, and transformative secrets of Robby Robinson’s Blueprint.
Robby Robinson’s Blueprint is produced and directed by Vlad Yudin and produced by Edwin Mejia Jr. and Tim Taylor. Mike O’Hearn, Dorian Yates, Lee Haney, Scott Hewitt and Rick Valente are also featured in the film.
