CJ ENM Hong Kong (CJ ENM HK) announced the filming commencement of their first Mandarin remake series BREEZE BY THE SEA first announced in November 2022.

CJ ENM HK has been constantly expanding their production efforts in Mandarin series, co-producing successful drama series including “Mom, Don’t Do That!” and Golden Bell Best Television Series nominee “The Amazing Grace of Σ”. BREEZE BY THE SEA marks the first remake Mandarin Series of CJ ENM Hong Kong which adapts the story of Korean Drama Series “Top Star U Back”.

The filming commencement ceremony of BREEZE BY THE SEA was held on 27 October in the picturesque coastal town of Kinmen Island in the presence of producers, director and cast members.

Helmed by award winning director Peter Ho, the film stars an ensemble of A-list Taiwanese actors including on-screen sweethearts Bolin Chen and Puff Kuo, Charles Lin, Tuo Tsung-hua, Ma Nian-Hsien; Singapore’s veteran actress Fann Wong well known for her classic role in “The Return of the Condor Heroes”, Golden Horse Best Actress Nominee Hong Hui Fang (Ajoomma), Hong Kong’s rising actress Cecilia Choi, and many more. This series marks the third time that Bolin Chen and Puff Kuo are working together on a drama series since their last drama “Small and Mighty” (2022) and “Silent Code” (2012).

With a production budget of USD 3 million, BREEZE BY THE SEA is a 12-episode drama adapted by K Drama “Top Star U Back” starring Kim Ji-seok and Jeon So-min, written by Lee Si Eun (True Beauty) and Lee So Jeong which premiered in Korea and worldwide in 2018. The producers immediately saw the connection between BREEZE BY THE SEA and “Top Star U Back” since both dramas are set in coastal town and revolves around the therapeutic storyline of island lifestyle.

BREEZE BY THE SEA follows the story of Yinmo (Bolin Chen), a narcissistic top star who finds himself exiled to an outlying island – Kinmen – after a scandal, where he meets Hainuo (Puff Kuo), a Kinmen native and lovable B&B owner. As he adjusts to his new surroundings and encounters the warm-hearted people of the town, Yinmo rediscovers his true self and learns how to form genuine connections. The drama explores themes of personal growth, redemption, and the power of community, providing viewers with a heartwarming and relatable story.
