What are some of the considerations one must take when thinking about co-production? Dhruv Sinha, the Senior Vice President for International Business, Marketing and Syndication at Reliance Entertainment talked about the various opportunities international players should take into consideration when it comes to co-productions at Television Asia Plus’ webinar “South Asia: A Look at India’s Content Space” held on January 20.
Dhruv discussed the various types of co-productions namely domestic or in-house, international, which also includes official treaties between countries and unofficial, and a combination of both and cited examples of the various co-productions between Indian and international productions.
He also cited the several benefits of co-production treaties and factors to determine co-production partners citing, “The key is to write or find a story that is very local and at the same time, has a universal appeal.”
Also part of Dhruv’s discussion was the opportunities for investment for co-productions, structures for film co-production, and when to start pitching to co-producers as we presented several case studies of several box office successes.
Webinar panellists included Simran Hoon, CEO of The Q who gave a talk about Tapping Into India’s Free-To-Air Market, and Murtuza Kutianawalla, Country Head of Distribution and Syndication at Toonz Media Group who talked about The Evolution of Kids Content In India.
