Singapore − Irdeto announced that PT Mega Media Indonesia Group, owner of satellite pay-TV service, Orange TV, has selected Irdeto’s end-to-end Multiscreen services to support the launch of Genflix, Indonesia’s first-ever commercial over-the-top (OTT) content delivery service. Genflix, also under PT Mega Media Indonesia Group, was established in September 2013 as the first OTT service in the country. Genflix offers streaming services for cable TV channels and video-on-demand in Indonesia, providing a vast range of premium offerings across a variety of smart devices, such as mobile phones and tablets.
PT Mega Media Indonesia Group has been working closely with Irdeto since 2011, relying on its Cloaked CA software security and Irdeto Rights services for Orange TV. With Irdeto Multiscreen, Genflix can manage, deliver, secure and monetize content on any device, generating new revenue streams for PT Mega Media Indonesia Group. Irdeto Multiscreen will support Genflix in establishing itself as a market leader and capturing Indonesia’s fast-growing market of mobile consumers. eMarketer estimates that Indonesia will surpass 100 million active smartphone users by 2018, making it the fourth-largest smartphone user population in the world.
“We are delighted to be expanding our long-term partnership with Irdeto to maximize the full growth potential of Genflix. With our unique prepaid business model and national broadcasting rights to the Barclays Premier League, we needed a strong multiscreen partner to ensure our content is securely delivered onto any screen for our consumers. We are confident that Irdeto will deliver the excellent service that we have come to expect from our experience with working with them, and help us reach our initial target of one to three million subscribers,” said Supeno Lembang, President Commissary, Orange TV.
A unique feature of Irdeto Multiscreen is that in addition to providing protection for premium content, the service will also enable Genflix to offer consumers a more personalized and user-friendly experience across a variety of devices. This is especially important in today’s market as consumers increasingly own a couple of connected devices such as smartphones and tablets. With Irdeto Multiscreen, Genflix can focus on its core business and grow its revenue without having to deal with the complexity of content distribution, media protection, DRM support and licensing rights which are managed by Irdeto’s Multiscreen solution.
To support Genflix, Irdeto is working closely with several strategic partners. Elemental Technologies is supporting the expansion of Genflix service availability on a variety of smart devices as well as broadening content offers for subscribers across Indonesia. Genflix is using bitmovin’s “bitdash” MPEG-DASH video player to offer high-quality live and on-demand video streaming and Conversant Solutions Pte Ltd CDN services to enable fast content delivery to consumers.
“As today’s OTT services and business models evolve, it is crucial for operators like PT Mega Media Indonesia Group to have a fuss-free, flexible and integrated end-to-end solution to conveniently and quickly roll out their offerings to consumers. We are excited to work with PT Mega Media Indonesia Group on Indonesia’s first-ever commercial OTT service. Through our continued partnership, we are confident Genflix will quickly establish itself with consumers as the new way to consume OTT content,” said Bengt Jonsson, Vice President Sales, APAC, Irdeto.
