all3media International has secured deals for Sexy Beast − Lion Television’s dating game show with a twist − with broadcasters in China, Korea, Germany and Lithuania commissioning local versions of the show, which sees contestants appear in full prosthetic masks to test if beauty and attraction are really more than skin deep.
Originally produced by Lion for BBC Three in the UK, Sexy Beast has been signed by Tencent, China, which has commissioned 30 x 60’ episodes in-house, whist also in Asia, Paan Media has produced a 13 episodes of a one hour duration series for KBS, Korea. In Europe, Viasat Broadcasting is preparing a first series for TV3 Lithuania.
The new deals add to the recent adaptation by MME Entertainment in Germany. A second series has now been confirmed by SIXX, the show’s broadcaster, due to the tremendous response and ratings success of the first series – which doubled the channels average share.
Sexy Beast offers a twist on the dating scenario as the full Hollywood movie mask treatment is applied to all contestants as they venture on dates and general ” getting to you know” you activities. Searching for romance behind the mask, we see if the meaningful, will overcome the instinctive reaction to the bizarre and on occasion, freaky, outward appearance. Meanwhile, the viewers get to see aliens going ice-skating and demonic looking creatures learning how to salsa dance.
Sabrina Duguet, SVP International Format Sales at all3media International commented, “Sexy Beasts has a simple premise which is very adaptable internationally. The classic blind date, with all the hope that encompasses, is given this amusing and fascinating visual and emotional twist. We are very pleased to see the show heading to these new territories and hope to announce further deals soon.”
