Sing My Song
ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVS GE) and Universal Music Group are working together to bring Sing My Song to a worldwide audience. Sing My Song is Star China’s new hit primetime entertainment show, which ITVS GE distributes as a TV format internationally.
Under this collaboration, Universal Music Group will be involved with the international territories that acquire the Sing My Song format from ITVS GE to produce locally. Universal Music will support the local broadcasters in a variety of ways, such as casting singer-songwriters as the show’s producer-judges, providing prizes and releasing original music from the series.
Sing My Song is a studio-based music contest, searching for the best original songs in the nation. Four of the music industry’s accomplished singer-songwriters share their experience and expertise as producer-judges, providing feedback and guidance to the contestants. The judges also have an important goal: each is scouting for songs to be part of their own original music album. The series aired on China’s national TV channel CCTV-3 earlier this year, reaching 480 million viewers over the series, with a total audience share of 37% in China (CSM) and CCTV-3’s slot ratings up 59% year-on-year. It has since been recommissioned for a second series.
At MIPTV in Cannes in April, ITVS GE signed a landmark deal with Star China to distribute Sing My Song, marking the first time that an original Chinese talent show format has been exported internationally.
Mike Beale, Director of International Formats for ITV Studios, said, “Universal Music Group has a proven track record of boosting the musical popularity of global hit TV formats, so this collaboration is testament to the potential of Sing My Song to become the next global musical television success. Having a partner of their calibre on board is sure to increase the already substantial interest we’ve had in the format from buyers around the world.”
Vivian Yin, Chief Representative of Star China International Media Ltd. and V.P. Starry Productions, said, “Star China is thrilled that Universal Music, the global music leader, will be involved with our hit format Sing My Song! We also highly value our partnership with ITV Studios and thank them for helping to promote the format around the world in the best possible manner.”
