ITV Studios is set to launch a raft of new factual entertainment, game/quiz, entertainment and reality formats at MIPCOM 2014, led by The Secret Life Of Students / Teens, Quiz Duel and The Line.
Mike Beale, Director of International Formats, ITV Studios, said, “As our global production business expands and the number of partners we work with grows, our international pipeline of content has never been stronger. This means that we are bringing our largest ever slate of new formats to the market this year. Led by three formats that each bring a new twist to their genre, we look forward to presenting them to clients at MIPCOM.”
ITV Studios’ portfolio of new factual entertainment formats is headed up by The Secret Life Of Students / Teens (Raw TV for Channel 4), a groundbreaking observational documentary format which employs a new technological innovation to track contributors’ digital lives. Working in conjunction with traditional documentary filmmaking, the Digital Rig (D:Rig) is installed on participants’ phones and uses digital data – everything from voice calls and picture messages to Facebook posts, search histories and Twitter updates, to form a narrative in near real time. The multi-media content is seamlessly integrated into the documentary to enhance and contextualise the lives of the students – just as it does in real life.
Other new factual entertainment formats include: Who’s Doing the Dishes? (ITV Studios for ITV); history show 7 Days That Made… (Icon Films and GroupM Entertainment for Channel 5); fixed-rig documentary Doctors Behind Closed Doors (Knickerbockerglory for Channel 5); Did You Know? (Potato for ITV); observational documentary 24 Hours In Police Custody (The Garden for Channel 4); Black Economy (United TV for DR1 in Denmark); The Price Of Beauty (United TV for TV3 in Denmark) and docu-series Rolling Parliament (United TV for DR2 in Denmark).
ITV Studios’ new game/quiz formats are led by Quiz Duel and The Line. Based on QuizClash™, the hugely successful app created by FEO Media, Quiz Duel (ITV Studios Germany for ARD) is an addictive new quiz show in which a team attempts to outsmart the entire nation. In each episode, a team of friends goes head-to-head against the nation in a series of multiple-choice question rounds. Playing via the app, the audience can take part in real time, and if they are smarter than the contestants, they’re in with a chance to win some of the cash prize!
The Line (High Noon Entertainment for GSN) is no ordinary queue: everyone who makes it to The Vault at the top of The Line could win big. We meet the crazy characters in The Line who play games with our hosts to win prizes, the chance to queue jump or get eliminated. If contestants do reach The Vault, they play for a life-changing cash prize. Each correct answer adds to the prize; if they get eight answers right they take it all, but if they get one wrong they’re out of the game and the next person in The Line gets their chance to claim the jackpot.
ITV Studios’ other new quiz launches include Gift Wrapped (12 Yard for ITV) and Revenge of the Eggheads (12 Yard for BBC2). In entertainment, new formats include Keep It In The Family (Over The Top Productions and ITV Studios for ITV), a new game show in which families work together to win prizes; dating show Stand By Your Man (ITV Studios and GroupM Entertainment for Channel 5) and Encore! (United TV for TV2 Charlie in Denmark). In reality, ITV Studios will present Celebrity Super Spa (ITV Studios and GroupM Entertainment for Channel 5).
ITV Studios will also launch some scripted formats to the market, including Rev (Big Talk for BBC1), Him & Her (Big Talk for BBC3) and Youngers (Big Talk for E4).
