In terms of overall financial performance for the 12-month period toJune 30, 2013, Beyond International’s net profit increased by 9.6% to $9,273,000 from $8,463,000, and revenue increased by 13.3% to $102,673,000 from $90,611,000
Revenue from television programme production increased by 10% to $45,297,000f rom $41,178,000. Revenue from exploitation of the finished programmes increased by 19% to $6,960,000 from $5,842,000. In the past financial year the company commenced production on over 250 hours of television programming across 20 titles. Of this total over 100 hours were commissioned by U.S. broadcasters. Over 53% of production revenues are generated outside of Australia (51% in 2012).
The television series produced for the U.S. market during the year include MythBusters (S9), Forbidden (S1), Behind Mansion Walls (S3) and Deadly Women (S7). Australian-commissioned production includes Selling Houses (S7), Pipsqueaks (S2), Whitlam – The Power and the Passion and the Tour Down Under. Beyond also commenced production on a major children’s series (Hoopla Doopla) that is being filmed in Beijing for CCTV and ABC in Australia. A number of new programmes have been developed during the period for both the domestic and U.S. market and will go into production in the 2014 financial year.
For Beyond Distribution, as a percentage of total revenue, the contribution of products sourced from third-party producers increased from 34% in 2012 to 37% in the current year with revenue from internal products declining slightly from 65% to 62%. The company is continuing to focus on growing sales by sourcing product externally to supplement the product originating from the production activities of the internal production units. During the year, successful series produced in-house include MythBusters, History Hunters, Deadly Women, Lab Rats Challenge and Toybox. The most successful third-party products were Highway Thru Hell, Love It Or List It, Fatal Vows and BBQ Crawl.
