Tokyo – NHK WORLD TV has launched in Myanmar as a satellite channel. The international English-language service of NHK is being made available by the local satellite service provider SKYNET 24 hours a day.
NHK hopes the quality news and diverse range of programming on NHK WORLD TV will foster mutual understanding between the two countries. The political and economic progress in Myanmar is likely to increase the number of SKYNET subscribers, which currently totals around 200,000 households.
NHK WORLD PREMIUM, the Japanese-language TV service geared toward Japanese people living overseas, is also available in Myanmar as of today at the request of SKYNET.
