yes Studios’ Bloody Murray, winner of Best Comedy at Series Mania in 2022, is to be adapted by Cavea+, the first legal streaming platform in Georgia. The deal is the first for yes Studios in the territory, and it will also be the first-ever scripted adaptation of an Israeli series in Georgia.
Bloody Murray is a brilliant comedy that focuses on the relationship between best friends and roommates Murray and Dana and their daily struggles as single, thirty-something women. Dana is a gynaecologist, and Murray is a film lecturer specialising in romantic comedies. Their lives change when Murray flees the scene of a hit and run, and the man she crashed in to, Lior, shows up at her apartment – where he meets Dana and the two fall madly in love. However, Murray soon realises that she has her own feelings for Lior. Lonely, and taking a cue from her work and the tropes of the romantic comedies she knows so well, Murray convinces herself that Lior is actually meant for her. After all, everyone knows that romcoms never start with love at first sight…
Cavea+, part of the Cavea Cinema chain company, is Georgia’s first legal streaming platform, bridging the gap between traditional cinema and digital streaming. It offers a diverse array of entertainment options, and in addition to its extensive library of both local and international content, it is committed to producing and showcasing original Georgian-language films and series, thus giving a platform to local talent and storytelling.
Gvantsa Garmelia from Cavea+ comments, “As our first scripted format, this collaboration with yes Studios is a landmark deal for us and indeed for the streaming industry in Georgia. We are most excited to be working with the yes Studios team in adapting Bloody Murray and look forward to bringing its warmth, heart and wonderful humour – all with a uniquely Georgian flavour – to our growing subscriber base later this year.”
Sharon Levi, managing director at yes Studios, comments, “We are honoured that Bloody Murray is a trailblazer and will be the first Israeli scripted series adapted in Georgia. Cavea+ has invested a great deal of faith in our wonderful show but we have every confidence that its blend of feel-good humour, romance and readily identifiable characters will prove a big hit and quickly have viewers wanting more.”
This new deal with Cavea+ represents the first for the Bloody Murray format, although the original 9 x 25’ series has been acquired by CBC in Canada and Arte in France/Germany. A second season is currently in development following a re-commission by yes TV. The series was created and written by Stav Idisis and produced by yes TV and Kastina Communications. yes Studios represents the completed series and format worldwide.
