RIO DE JANEIRO – The telenovela Segundo Sol, meaning Second Sun, that debuted on Globo’s prime time in May has topped TV and social media ratings.
About to celebrate one month on air in the 9pm time slot, the telenovela recorded an average daily reach (individuals who watched at least one minute of the telenovela per day) of over 44 million people in the first month. The cumulative reach was approximately 145 million people from its premiere until June 9.
Written by João Emanuel Carneiro, author of the big hit Brazil Avenue, the plot also topped the Social Wit List ranking among global and Latin American premieres that had the most comments on social media.
Segundo Sol takes place in Bahia, in Northeastern Brazil, and tells the saga of Luzia, a simple, hard-working woman who has her life upended after falling in love with Beto Falcão. Giovanna Antonelli (The Clone) and Emilio Dantas (The Edge of Desire) star in the series respectively.
Throughout the telenovela, she will go a long way to rewrite her own story and bring back together her family, that had been torn apart by a series of plots devised by Karola (Deborah Secco, Irrational Heart), Beto’s girlfriend, and Laureta (Adriana Esteves, Brazil Avenue), a powerful figure in the region’s night life.
