Interested in co-production partnerships for documentaries, Canal+ (France) will attend RioContentMarket 2017 with the goal of getting to know the Brazilian market and strengthening ties with local channels.
“We have several partnerships with Germany, the UK and Scandinavian countries, but we want to have a wider view and look for other important markets, as is the case of Brazil. Our intention is to meet our Brazilian peers at the event”, says Diego Buñuel, filmmaker and head of documentaries at Canal+, who will be a keynote speaker at the event.
Canal+ has been investing in the documentary format. The goal is to launch around 10 ninety-minute documentaries on prime time a year. “Fiction is very interesting and there was a boom in TV series, but people also want to reconnect with reality”, mentions Buñuel. He defends that the subject to be addressed does not matter much, as it is the storytelling that is important.
In addition to being in charge of documentaries at Canal+, Diego Buñuel is a former war correspondent for French TV. He directed and presented the documentary Boomerang, la puce à l’oreille (2012) and is known for the Nat Geo series Don’t Tell My Mother, inspired on the trips he took throughout the world as a reporter, showing the challenges faced by the big metropolises. RioContentMarket is the most important business event of the audiovisual industry in Latin America, and takes place annually in Rio de Janeiro. In 2017, the event will be held from 8 to 10 March, at the Hotel Windsor Barra. Registration is now open.
