Carribean Flower
Globo’s major production Caribbean Flower premiered in Argentina on 1 October with great success. Broadcast by Telefe, one of the main free-to-air channels in the country, the telenovela was a leader in its timeslot and reached 30% of share (source: Ibope). Caribbean Flower, has already been licensed for other countries in Latin America, Asia and Europe. In Portugal, for example, the telenovela aired on Globo’s international channel and has achieved the best premier of a telenovela broadcast on cable TV in the country recently. The story, set on beautiful beaches, dunes and salt flats holds a number of records during the months it was on the air, conquering 179,000 viewers and 5.9% of shares (Source: GFK).
Written by Walter Negrão, author of Destiny River, and nominated for a 2012 International Emmy Award, Caribbean Flower shows how a couple in love since they were young see everything change with a deceitful blow from a so called friend. The plot demonstrated its potential to captivate audiences when it aired in Brazil. On air in access primetime, it averaged 25 rating points and 50% of shares (source: Ibope).
Globo also announced an important agreement with Telefe for the broadcasting of their productions. The three-year contract has expanded the space for Brazilian dramas on television in the country, reaffirming the ability Globo’s productions have to win over international audiences. Telefe still currently broadcasts the telenovela The Life We Lead, which is leader in its the timeslot with high ratings, as happened with Brazil Avenue, Brave Woman and Irrational Heart, also produced by Globo.
