Sint-Niklass, Belgium – Newtec has announced on June 30 a major milestone after delivering over 110,000 units of its IP satellite modems for the SES Broadband Services (SBBS) network in Ku and Ka-band.
Newtec has been working closely with SBBS in Europe, the Middle East and Africa since it launched the Astra Connect (formerly Astra2Connect) service in 2007. It continues to supply hubs and terminals for SBBS and recently helped to extend coverage of the 20Mbps Ka-band service to cover more of Europe, especially Germany and France, using the new ASTRA 2E and 2F satellites.
“For many years we have enjoyed a productive and professional relationship with Newtec helping to push the technological boundaries to deliver a fast and reliable satellite broadband service for our customers, for the best value,” said Patrick Biewer, Managing Director of SES Broadband Services. “We are very pleased to have reached such an important overall milestone and look forward to closing the digital divide even further with Newtec as our service continues to expand.”
Newtec’s low-cost Ka-band MDM2200 IP Satellite Modem includes DVB-S2 Adaptive Coding Modulation (ACM), Adaptive Return Link with 4CPM modulation and IP traffic enhancement software for TCP acceleration. It also features a unique Point&Play® installation technology to make self-installation and start-up a simple task that can be done by the consumer.
“For nearly three decades, Newtec has been creating high spec and affordable satellite equipment for use all over the world. SES and Newtec have worked together on many projects during that time and we are very proud of our accomplishments together. The objective for both companies is to provide the best service without compromise whilst taking advantage of the latest developments in research and development,” said Serge Van Herck, CEO of Newtec.
