The Nat Geo Wild series was first launched in the U.S. in October 2013 as a three-parter, with international roll-out three months later. The re-commission announced on July 29 sees the broadcaster extend the show’s run by a further six hour-long shows. Animal Fight Night marked Arrow Media’s first move into natural history programming, a move which has been successful for the indie and resulted in commissions for Building Penguin Paradise (Nat Geo Wild) and Dogs: Their Secret Lives (Channel 4).
Tom Brisley, Joint Creative Director, Arrow Media, said, “The world’s passion for animals is well-known and is growing all the time. We feel that we are able to bring a new angle on what is a fantastically rich area, by combining great storytelling with scientific insight and great CGI techniques. We’re excited about building our portfolio of animal-related content and have a very rich slate of animal-related projects coming through. ”
Janet Han Vissering, Senior Vice President of Development & Production for Nat Geo Wild said, “We are delighted to commission yet another series of Animal Fight Night. The show is visually audacious, creative and innovative – perfect content for our viewers we know will love and enjoy watching.”
Each show of Animal Fight Night is set in a specific arena, using CGI to recreate and examine the gripping same species battles between some of the biggest, baddest and often surprising fighters of the animal world, dissecting the science behind the tactics and bodily weapons that various creatures employ in battle. Using a range of footage including user-generated content, and innovative techniques including CGI, slow-mo action replays, freeze-frames, close-up zooms and pop-up info-graphics, Animal Fight Night closely analyses animal behaviour, highlighting scientific facts while documenting the most shocking animal brawls ever captured on camera. The series was commissioned by Janet Vissering, Senior Vice President of Development & Production for Nat Geo Wild.
