The Netherlands – Exset announced on July 24 the appointment of Rian Bester as Chief Operating Officer.
Rian Bester
Based at the company’s head office in Almere, The Netherlands, Bester brings a wealth of technical and global managerial experience to Exset. He has been in the broadcast technology industry for over 15 years. Born in South Africa, he obtained his Honours Degree in Engineering from the University of Pretoria. He moved to The Netherlands in 2000 and worked for Irdeto, where he fulfilled various global management roles; most recently, VP of Operations and VP R&D prior to that. Bester is an alumnus of London Business School and Institute for Management Development; in his spare time he is keen on boating and photography.
Exset’s DMS is a unique business and technology model that makes pay-TV self-financing without depending exclusively on subscriber fees for revenue. DMS bridges the gap between technology and value-added service creation, producing digital television platforms that can be monetised where previously it was virtually impossible. This allows populations to benefit from new information and entertainment services while operators and governments, when partnering with Exset, monetise digital switchover and assist in bringing about social transformation.
Bester said, “This is a tremendous opportunity to continue Exset’s international expansion. Helping operators in emerging markets to drive their business forwards with DMS, using digital broadcast networks to reach where the internet doesn’t, is an exciting proposition. We are ideally positioned to provide both technological and business expertise that will allow operators to deliver services and monetise them where previously impossible.”
