London – Pilot Productions, the producer of world-renowned travel and adventure programming, will be unveiling its latest production Tough Trains (6 x 52’) to buyers at MIPTV 2014.
Produced in high definition, Tough Trains takes viewers on some of the most epic and hard-core train journeys on the planet. Journeys such as the awesome and wild ride from the East coast of Africa to the West; the ambitious South American expedition from Corumba, Brazil (reputed to be a centre for smuggling and drug trafficking) on board the ‘Dead Train’ to the dusty frontier town of Santa Cruz, Bolivia; and to India where railways are not just a means of transport — they are a way of life carrying eleven million passengers every day.
Tough Trains
Each episode offers memorable rail journeys to some of the world’s most remote destinations. Trips that should take hours often take days, nights that should be spent in towns are spent on board, interminable delays, lack of timetables, incredible bribery escapes are all experiences from memorable rail journeys on some of the world’s most off-the-beaten-path destinations.
The series, currently in production, has already been sold to Travel Channel International and Voyage, France. Episodes include “From The Pantanal to the Pacific Coast”, “Africa’s Copper Trains”, “Ice Trains of Russia”, “India’s Most Crowded Trains”, “Vietnam: Disunity on the Reunification Express” and “Hard Trains of Madagascar”.
The company will also be offering buyers Planet Food, Series 6 (6 x 60’) and the new documentary/travel series Great Railway Journeys of Europe (4 x 30’).
Produced in high definition, Planet Food is dedicated to culinary voyages through countries selected for the richness and diversity of their food offerings. Presented by intrepid travellers and food lovers Rosie Lovell and Bobby Chinn, the series offers a unique perspective on travel reflected through an amazing variety of specialty cuisine from around the world. During the course of each ‘journey’, the foodie travellers discover how the history, geography, climate and economy of a country are intrinsically reflected in the diet of its people. They meet with knowledgeable and entertaining local characters that help them to explore the diet of each country, through its staple foods and homegrown produce, as well as giving advice on food etiquette. Our travellers will also sample some of the most delicious dishes and make recommendations on the best places to eat. On a practical level several cooking processes per programme are followed in order to give viewers recipe information and tips on preparation. The series also includes ‘specials’ about ingredients such as “The Story of Tea” and “The Story of Cheese”.
Episodes include “Ireland”, “Planet Food Special: The Story of Tea”, “Deep South USA”, “South Africa”, “Food Trails of the Maya”, and “Planet Food Special: The Story of Cheese”.
The mini-series Great Railway Journeys of Europe offers journeys on some of Europe’s most scenic and historic railways such as the legendary Orient Express train as it makes its journey from Istanbul to Belgrade. Episodes include “Raumabanen Railway: Norway”, “Orient Express: Istanbul to Belgrade”, “The Jacobite: West Highlands Express Scotland”, and “Semmering Express: Austria”.
