Singapore – At Malaysia’s Networking Luncheon held at ATF on December 6, Datuk Md Afendi Datuk Hamdan, Chairman of the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS), made several announcements, beginning with Malaysia’s first major international market, the Kuala Lumpur Communications & Creative Industry Mart (KLCCIM), which will take place in Kuala Lumpur from March 26th – 29th, 2013.
KLCCIM is supported by FINAS, Malaysian Communications & Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and all departments in the Ministry of Information, Communications and Culture, including cooperation with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, MDeC, MATRADE, PEMANDU and numerous other agencies. It aims to be one of Asia’s communications, creative and content ideal market and expects to attract more than 200 seller companies from Asia and 300 buyers from around the world.
KLCCIM will consist of a content market, exhibition, conference, international masterclass, B2B platform and numerous networking events, with attendees from Europe, America, Middle East and Asia. This annual event will showcase films, TV programmes, animations, games, communications & mobile content, music, licensing & merchandising, visual arts, fashion, crafts, performing arts and also a film support & location market. The market will be held concurrently with the Asian Side of the Doc (March 19-22), International Film Festival of Malaysia (March 23-30), ABU TV Market High-Level Forum (March 25-26), Asia Digital MediaCraft Awards (March 27) and the Malaysian International Guitar Festival (March 27-29).
Grants & financial incentives has been implemented and disbursed, including the USD 38 mil (RM 120 mil)Creative Industry Grant (by the Ministry of Information, Communications and Culture), USD 33 mil (RM 100 mil) Creative Industry Development Fund by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and USD 65 mil (RM 200 mil) MyCreative Funds by MyCreative Ventures to help boost the creative industry’s significance to the Malaysian economy. The above-mentioned financial support may be applicable to Malaysian companies, but not limited to foreign co-production partners through the application of the Malaysian partner.
FINAS also revealed that Malaysia brought almost 200 new programmes to ATF, offered for distribution and acquisition which has doubled the number of completed programmes compared to last year.
