MIPTV, Cannes – Scripps Networks International has two confirmed landings of Food Network Asia, expecting to be on-air in the region by this summer, according to SNI’s President Greg Moyer. Another significant development is the appointment of Passion Distribution to handle content licensing – more clearly separating that programming for Scripps’ International channels from content for external sale. “We’re making sure Passion has a rich larder of content to sell; also making the decision to keep some primetime programming for SNI channels,” says Moyer.”We don’t want our in-house people distracted by content sales. We’ve got more than enough content to provide two robust lines of supply.” Moyer says that, via Passion Distribution, Scripps is showing terrestrial broadcasters that there is some fine entertainment programming for syndication. “But only a certain number of hours, we’re no longer doing big output deals, providing hundreds of hours to pay TV channels.” He says that at least 20 percent of Food Network Asia’s schedule upon its launch will be Asian. “We’re entering production deals, making TV for Autumn 2010 or Spring 2011. We’re clarifying the grid nicely, with substantial headlines of Asian-produced programming, as well as the American staples.” He confirms the network is open to new content partnerships within Asia. SNI has acquired SBS Australia original series Luke Nguyen’s Vietnam for Food Network. Filmed entirely on location, Luke Nguyen’s Vietnam follows charismatic and acclaimed restaurateur Luke Nguyen on a culinary journey through the Southern regions of Vietnam. The series’ first season will begin airing on Food Network in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia later this summer. Additionally, Scripps Networks International has an option for future seasons. The series’ second season is currently shooting in Vietnam.
