Malaysia’s involvement in this year’s MIPCOM has more than doubled last year’s, increasing from 30 creative content companies to 75 at the 2011 event. Los Angeles — Waterman Entertainment is bringing four new children’s formats and one animated format intended for an older audience, to MIPCOM. The children’s formats include Young Doctor Dolittle, an animated series based on the well-known books by Hugh Lofting; and Patches the Pup & Friends, a preschool series starring a puppy named Patches and his friends. Great pay off for Pay-TV
This year’s Emmy Awards paid great dividends for Asia’s Pay-TV operators. The annual awards show, held in Los Angeles on Sunday, saw top honours given to drama series from both the big players and the new. HBO Asia’s shows won a combined total of 19 awards, the most out of all Pay-TV operators in the region. Last year’s hit Boardwalk Empire, had the biggest haul out of any one programme, winning eight. Bolt sprints to MIPCOM
Zodiak Rights has acquired the international rights to Usain Bolt: The Fastest Man Alive, a two-part documentary on the Olympic and World 100-metre record holder. The films are being produced by French production company Elephant Doc (part of Elephant Groupe) for France 2. A preview of the documentaries will be unveiled at MIPCOM 2011. 3D music programming will be on BBC Worldwide’s slate of new content at MIPCOM 2011.
