Hong Kong – BBC World News claims to be the territory’s No. 1 international news channel based on daily audience reach, according to the latest Ipsos PAX survey.
The Ipsos PAX survey ranked bbc.com’s desktop and mobile sites as Asia’s top international news sources. Across Asia Pacific, the BBC has been named the most popular news brand among high net worth consumers. In addition, the BBC’s international news services, BBC World News and bbc.com, have been named the most consumed news brand ‘on the move’ by first/business class flyers, high net worth individuals and high income earners in Asia Pacific.
Other highly coveted audience groups where the BBC’s digital news content ranks No. 1 include opinion leaders, tech savvy, corporate executives and luxury apparel owners. According to PAX, the BBC’s digital content also ranks as the fastest growing in Asia, quarter on quarter, outpacing CNN across all PAX measures.
In May 2013, BBC.com comScore figures reported bbc.com as reaching 13 million unique visitors in Asia Pacific. In securing the No. 1 English-language international news website ranking, bbc.com outperformed not only CNN but also other leading news sites such as the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, the Financial Times and The Economist, according to the BBC.
Jim Egan, CEO of BBC Global News Ltd said: “The first quarter of 2013 marked the beginning of an exciting growth phase for BBC World News and BBC.com. BBC World News launched from our new global HQ with a new look enhanced by state of the art facilities and studios, new programmes and a fresh line-up of presenters, and the latest PAX figures show that viewers are reacting warmly to the changes. We are particularly pleased to be back at number one spot in Hong Kong. As we found in March with our own survey on news consumption habits, audiences expect a properly integrated, consistent news service on all the devices they own, so we are also delighted to see that bbc.com is becoming the go-to online news source in Asia Pacific alongside the BBC World News channel.”
