Singapore – Malaysia’s Astro All Asia Networks will be permitted to register its logo with the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore. MediaCorp News had objected that they felt the Astro logo was too similar to that of its Channel NewsAsia (CNA) channel brand, which might cause confusion in the marketplace. While Justice Lee Seiu Kin said that both logos looked alike to some degree, he said it was unlikely that the two companies would be confused for each other. Astro had sought to use the trademark in two categories: for stationery and publications, and for the services that it provides in business and consultancy. MediaCorp’s previous objection to the application was rejected by Singapore’s principal assistant registrar of trademarks last year.
