An increasing number of provincial and municipal level Chinese cable TV operators are transforming their service into a two-way network in order to compete with new IPTV, over-the-top (OTT), online video and other interactive video business models emerging on the Chinese market.
To compete in this new TV market, Shandong Cable Network, a tier-one cable operator in Shandong Province, has deployed the latest generation of the Ericsson Multiscreen TV Solution.
The deployment, which features Ericsson’s Multiscreen Management Platform and Content Management System, will elevate the viewing experience for Shandong Cable Network’s 21 million subscribers across 17 cities in Shandong province.
In collaboration with China-based Inspur Group, Shandong Cable Network’s prime system integrator, Ericsson’s technology delivers an open, scalable and flexible Multiscreen solution that lets Shandong Cable Network offer a variety of interactive TV experiences including time-shifted TV and compelling Video-On-Demand (VOD) services across a wide range of mobile and fixed devices. The new solution integrates with Inspur Group’s Portal Business and Operations Support System (BOSS) to enable Shandong Cable Network to be more competitive with new services and high quality user experiences.
“Our customers have an unprecedented amount of choice over their device and content sources and with demand for round-the-clock video at an all-time high, it’s crucial for us to have the most sophisticated solutions in place to deliver high quality, on-demand,” said Mr. Du Ji Pu, CTO of Shandong Cable Network. “We worked closely with Ericsson on our key requirements — the main one being a simplified and streamlined operation for improved service velocity, which will offer our subscribers a converged and unified service on their smart devices. The Ericsson Multiscreen TV solution provides a robust, flexible and adaptable architecture that will enable us to deliver market relevant services and applications to our ever growing subscriber base.”
Its core functionality includes content management, VOD back-office and digital rights management. The solution is built upon the field-proven Ericsson Multiscreen Management Platform that delivers linear and on-demand content to subscribers over any network, whether it is broadcast, IP, or satellite.
“Consumers are increasingly looking for one simple, convenient and personalised experience, particularly in China, where the TV market is growing rapidly and OTT services are becoming ever more accessible,” said Ove Anebygd, Vice President and Head of Solution Area Media, Ericsson. “This deployment signifies another powerful step forward in our position as the leading provider of on-demand solutions in China’s next generation TV market. With the openness and flexibility of our solution in place, Shandong Cable Network can deliver the rich and relevant TV experiences that its millions of customers across Shandong province are demanding.”
