Q: Which genres of formats do you feel will still be popular/ less popular this year?
A: Big entertainment, including game shows will still be popular for prime time. I don’t foresee any genre being less popular due to increased interests in formats generally.
Q: Where do you see increased interest?
A: We have seen an increasing interest in scripted programming in Asia for prime time and late prime time, so I think the sales of scripted programming will increase in the region, most particularly from our German arm, Filmpool – constructed reality which we are currently rolling out around Europe.
Q: What is the biggest challenge for the business?
A: Creativity is obviously key so coming up with new concepts is always the biggest challenge. ALL3MEDIA Group owns many production companies with a great breadth of content from game shows, reality, factual entertainment, drama and constructed reality – and they work across a wide variety of budgets and cultures. This gives us the advantage of being able to supply a number of needs that our clients might have.
Q: Which countries are acquiring new formats in a big way?
A: Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia, Philippines and China.
Q: What key challenges do you face in adapting your formats for Asian buyers?
A: We have not faced any major difficulties. We make sure that we supply our clients with production consultancy on location to help them is every way they may need.
Q: Which countries have produced formats that have interested buyers in a big way?
A: I would say Asian territories seem to be interested in formats from all over the world, from the U.S., the UK, Holland, Israel, Japan, Spain, and are just interested in whatever is new and exciting. Recently ALL3MEDIA have had a great success in Vietnam with two UK formats, Cash Cab on HTV, and Have You Got the Balls? which we launched with Hanoi TV and are very proud to have launched first there with them.
Q: How do you differentiate your formats?
A: Creatively – we think we offer a “stand out” catalogue to our buyers – our creative pipeline is great – thanks to the quality of the producers we work with. That’s a comment that we receive frequently from buyers at the markets.
