Hong Kong – Singapore’s MediaCorp Raintree Pictures new slate of five films will see three to be directed by local filmmakers and the remaining two to be co-produced with Hong Kong’s Salon Films. The new co-productions extends the company’s partnership which started with their collaboration on US$15million Painted Skin set for release in October 2008. New films to be directed by Singaporean helmers are a biography of Rose Chan nicknamed ‘Queen of Stiptease’, to be helmed by Zhao Wei Films’ Eric Khoo; going into production second half 2008; 1028, the prequel to Royston Tan’s ‘getai’ movie 881 which sees Tan helming the first project for his new production house 10twentyeight, set for production from March 30, 2008; as well as a yet-untitled romance flick with time travel to be directed by Kelvin Tong. Co-productions with Salon Films are a political thriller set in 1965 Singapore and Taller than Yao Ming, which follows a boy’s journey to Beijing to play basketball with the Chinese and NBA star.
