Tokyo, Japan – NHK’s On Demand service continues to struggle to find viewers willing to pay for programming that has already been shown on its terrestrial and satellite channels, according to Variety. Variety reports NHK's revenue from On Demand, which is available online and through cable television providers, amounted to 300 million yen (US$3.3 million) in the financial year to March, as against a forecast of 2.25 billion yen. NHK World TV launches in Hawaii
NHK World TV, the international English-language channel run by Japan's NHK has started airing in Hawaii. The Honolulu Advertiser reports that the channel has entered into partnership with Nippon Golden Network, which is hosting it in Hawaii. According to Dennis Ogawa, president of Nippon Golden Network, Hawaii's large population of people with Asian ancestry and the large role Japanese tourists played in the state's economy made the new channel a natural fit for viewers. Fuji Television Network wins ratings contest
Tokyo - According to ratings agency Video Research, Fuji Television Network won the overall ratings contest in 2009 for the sixth straight year. Fuji TV scored an average 13.5 per cent share in the golden time period (7-10 pm), a 13.4 per cent rating in primetime (7-11 pm) and an 8.6 per cent rating in the all-day category (6 am-midnight).
