Slew of new HD channels for Sky Perfect
Tokyo - Sky Perfect Jsat is targeting to launch 62 HD channels by the fourth quarter of 2009, with an overall goal of 100 HD channels. Japan's largest satellite broadcaster, with 3.5 million subscribers, just unveiled its mid-term plan for 2008-2012. Uphill struggle to meet 2011 analogue switch off
Tokyo - Japan's digital TV penetration is surprisingly low with only three years to go till the analogue switch-off. While 43.3% of TV households are digital-ready, only 34.8% can actually watch digital broadcasts. Data comes from Japan's National Association of Commercial Broadcasts, which conducted a survey of 18,000 households. Phoenix looking to land in Taiwan
Taipei - China-focused broadcaster Phoenix Satellite has reapplied to broadcast in Taiwan, seven years after being rejected. A government source told media that Phoenix, which is listed in Hong Kong and allowed limited broadcast rights in China, submitted an application last month.
