FRANCE 24 has a ten–minute news bulletin every half hour. For in–depth analysis, the schedule is enriched by numerous current affairs magazine programmes, investigative reports and daily debates. FRANCE 24 puts culture at the forefront as the channel considers that civilization has been equally enriched by culture as it has been by economic factors. Beginning with French and English, the Arabic programming was launched in April of 2007 and was extended to 10 hours per day in April of 2009. While FRANCE 24 has several broadcasting and working languages, it maintains a single message that does not vary based on the location of its viewing public. The content and images are identical, and subject matters and reports are treated equally in each of its broadcast languages. FRANCE 24 is not a French channel translated into English or Arabic – rather it is one that offers a unique editorial mix across languages. Scheduling policy: The five main pillars of FRANCE 24’s programming are: • THE NEWS: Every hour on the hour, 24 hours a day, a 10–minute news program is presented live from the newsroom, updated if necessary and rebroadcast on the half hour with a reminder of the headlines every 15 minutes in morning and evening prime time. • BUSINESS: All the inside news on world business and the information essential to understanding the positives and negatives of globalization. A report from the studio in mornings (06:20) and evenings at 18:45 in Arabic, 20:17 in French with Stéphanie Antoine and Raphaël Kahane in English. From Monday to Friday: 8 and 9 mins. • CULTURE: Culture without frontiers and with an open mind, artists who have stood the test of time, stars, discoveries and razzamatazz… Cultural diversity from the four corners of the globe, in reports and with guests. A six–minute version is broadcast on the Arabic channel at 17:15. From Monday to Friday: 09:45 / 9 mins. • SPORTS: All the news on world sport from the grounds and elsewhere, in pictures…From Monday to Friday at 06:10 and 20:10 / 5 mins • WEATHER: Every day, every half hour Other programmes include: • IN THE PAPERS: Live from the newsroom, a 5–minute panorama of the world’s media every day at 9:10am • ENVIRONMENT: All you need to know about the planet, every Saturday at 11:40am / 9 minutes. • LIFESTYLE: Decoration, wealth, gastronomy, wine tasting, architecture, fashion, Monday to Friday at 10:40am /3 minutes. • CARING: Reporting on humanitarian issues, on the ground with the people who suffer and the people who care. Thursday, every fortnight at 10:15am Total distribution: 100 million TV households can receive FRANCE 24, including 47 million free–to–air via satellite and 53 million subscribing to satellite, cable, ADSL or DTT multi–channel packages. FRANCE 24 has considerably increased its distribution by signing new distribution agreements, adding more than 20 million new households since its launch. FRANCE 24 has around 1.5 million TV households in Asia– Pacific as of January 2010 (launched in September 2009) with key carriage agreements including Hong Kong’s now–TV, Vietnam’s VTC, Thailand Cable Television Association On–line, VOD, SVOD or mobile deals? Available live or on– demand to 55 million NTT DoCoMo 3G subscribers, elsewhere in Asia through iPhone/iPod Touch application with live streaming and VOD. A short time after its launch, FRANCE24.com already boasts the third biggest internet audience for international news channel websites after CNN and BBC, according to Nielsen’s Net Ratings. In August 2008, 5 million web users visited FRANCE24.com.
