ATF 2012: DHX Media boosts Asian presence with new deals

December 5, 2012 by TVA Editor

DHX Media, an independent producer, distributor and licensor of mainly children’s entertainment content, is extending the reach of its brands in Asia, signing a bouquet of new sales and renewals across its library ahead of the Asia Television Forum (ATF).

Discovery Networks Asia Pacific has bought Inspector Gadget’s Last Case and Inspector Gadget’s Biggest Caper Ever, as well as the series Gadget Boy, while PCCW’s now TV in Hong Kong has acquired both seasons of new preschool series Monster Math Squad. SkyAsia Media Indonesia has committed to both seasons of Pirates, Adventures in Art and the first season of Urban Vermin. Deals have also been signed in Japan where NTV has taken broadcast rights to Super Duper Sumos and Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century, and Cartoon Network has renewed several Madeline titles. Thailand’s True Visions has picked up its fourth season of Super WHY! , Australia’s Quickflix has gained SVOD rights to a number of DHX Media titles and TV New Zealand has picked up feature Bonjour Timothy.

Broadcasters have also highlighted their commitment to a number of DHX Media shows, with renewal deals signed with Mediacorp Singapore for Johnny Test seasons four and five, Disney Channel Asia for Animal Mechanicals seasons one and two, and Disney Channel India for Kid vs. Kat.

DHX Media heads to ATF with a slate headlined by new series Monster Math Squad and SheZow!, a series which has also presold to ABC Australia. SheZow!, which is targeted at 8-12 year olds, is created by showrunner Obie Scott Wade and produced by Australia’s Moody Street Kids and LA-based Kickstart Productions for Channel 10.

“Asia is a key region for us and one where our shows perform very well, as highlighted by these deals. We are heading to ATF with one of the largest kids content libraries from an independent producer, following DHX Media’s acquisition of Cookie Jar Entertainment, and are looking forward to establishing new partnerships with emerging and digital platforms in the region, as well as strengthening existing broadcast relationships” said Craig McGillivray, Territory Manager at DHX Media.
