London — Independent UK based distributor DCD Rights has added the much-anticipated new contemporary thriller Romper Stomper and the second season of legal drama Striking Out to its scripted slate ahead of MIPCOM, with key presale deals already signed for both titles. A Stan original series, Romper Stomper (6 x 60’) is a Roadshow Rough Diamond production in association with Screen Australia and Film Victoria.
A high stakes crime drama/political thriller told from multiple points of view, Romper Stomper will debut on Stan in Australia and has now been acquired by SundanceTV Global in a major multiple-territory deal with DCD Rights for Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Dutch-speaking Benelux, Iberia, Latin America, MENA and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Thrilling, bold and provocative, the drama picks up on Geoffrey Wrights’ 1992 classic film, following a new generation of the activist Right, their Anti-Fascist counterparts, and three young Muslims caught up in the conflict. Shot in Super 4K and produced by John Edwards and Dan Edwards, with Geoffrey Wright, creator of the original film which launched Russell Crowe, at the helm, Romper Stomper features a high profile cast as well as a strong line up of newcomers, including David Wenham (Pirates of the Caribbean, Top of the Lake, Lion), Sophie Lowe (The Returned, The Slap), Jacqueline McKenzie (Safe Harbour, The 4400, Mental) and Toby Wallace (INXS: Never Tear Us Apart).
Also launching at MIPCOM is the new 6 x 60’ second season of Striking Out, which has presold to SundanceTV Global for multiple territories and YLE in Finland. The new season sees Maria Doyle Kennedy (Orphan Black) and Moe Dunford (Vikings) joining the stellar cast, alongside Amy Huberman (Moone Boy). Huberman returns as solicitor Tara Rafferty, who, confidently now her own boss, faces morally challenging scenarios that will push her and her team in their personal and professional lives. Huberman is joined once again by Rory Keenan (Peaky Blinders, War & Peace), Neil Morrissey (Line of Duty, The Night Manager) and Fiona O’Shaughnessy (The Living & The Dead). Directed by Lisa James Larsson (Victoria) and Simon Massey (Skins), Striking Out is a Bl!nder Films Production for RTÉ with financing from BAI and Acorn Media Enterprises.
Nicky Davies Williams, CEO at DCD Rights, commented, “We’re very pleased to secure these fantastic new high-end dramas for our international clients. The first season of Striking Out proved very popular and the addition of six more episodes will further build its strong potential as a key brand for international buyers, as already highlighted by these two early renewals. I’m also looking forward to showcasing the atmospheric and unflinching new contemporary series Romper Stomper. The drama promises to deliver a much more complex peeling of the political onion than the original movie, offering a startlingly new perspective from all sides, and an even-handed, fictional interpretation of issues faced by many countries in the world today, making it hugely relevant for a global audience.”
