Launched in 1992, the UEFA Champions League features the league champions of all UEFA member associations (excluding Liechtenstein) as well as those clubs finishing from second to fourth position in the strongest leagues. The 32 teams are drawn into eight groups of four teams with group winners and runners-up proceeding to a knockout phase. The tournament culminates with the UEFA Champions League Final, played during May each year.
