Hong Kong – Friendster.com, which has more than 50 million registered users worldwide, launched its Chinese version and assorted new products in September. New offerings include Fan Profiles, Connection Engine, Recent Network Activity, Schools, Classified, and Open Platform. Fan Profiles allows people such as artists, models and musicians to build up a fan base; Recent Network Activity gives users real-time updates about their friends within the network; Schools links users to their classmates; and Open Platform allows 3rd-party content to be embedded. The newly launched Chinese version and products will help Friendster catch up in the Hong Kong market, where it has more than 360,000 users, with market leaders Xanga and Facebook, according to Carat Media Services Hong Kong. The new products will also provide advertisers with even better filtering as well as developing ways to interact with the target audience.
