London – Babelgum, the free-to-view global TV network has launched its revamped Web TV platform to provide a redesigned interface, Web 2.0 features and social networking tools. The platform has also been made compatible with Macs, as well as Windows XP and Vista operating systems. Using the new platform, viewers can join one of three Babelgum Communities including Films & Festivals, Motorcycling and Nature & Conservation. The communities are the first of a series to be available. Each niche collaborative environment includes video clips, an interactive message board, and links to custom profiles of other members that share an interest in the subject area. Users can also create and manage new niche communities as well as customize profiles, save favorites and create personal video playlists. In addition to communities, content is accessible through branded channels within a directory, search engine, personalized smart channels created by individual users; and the most watched and rated videos. The Babelgum Web TV platform includes a search function which provides an automatic selection of keyword options as a user types in search terms, and allows viewers to search by best-rated and most-watched. An enhanced collaborative filtering capability ranks video on the basis of implicit and explicit choices. Babelgum users are able to share content and embed video on personal websites, blogs as well as social networks including MySpace and Facebook. A content management system with features such as video preview, autotag and multiple upload facility is also available to professional content producers, rights owners and program partners to manage and monetize assets.
