Singapore – Discovery Networks Asia and electronics manufacturer Samsung have renewed the latter’s ‘Meet the World in Full HD’ campaign on Discovery Channel and Discovery Travel & Living for another year, furthering the partners’ 2007 initiative to communicate benefits of HD to consumers with technology demonstrations. From April 2008, a series of four 20-second vignettes will run on Discovery Channel to showcase capabilities of Samsung HDTV sets. Samsung will also be the presenting sponsor for Not Your Average Travel Guide for eight weeks on Discovery Travel & Living, and Discovery Channel’s HD series Discovery Atlas – Egypt, Japan, France and Russia – in 2008. The sponsorship will run on Discovery’s Southeast Asia and Australia/New Zealand feeds. In addition, the premiere of Discovery Channel’s two-hour Ultimate Olympics Special and encore of local production Ultimate Olympics will also be presented from July 27 in the lead up to the Beijing Olympics on both of Discovery’s feeds. Both programmes are suitable for Samsung which is a presenting partner for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Torch Relay and the worldwide Olympics wireless communications partner. Other Samsung supported Discovery Channel China-related shows include Man Made Marvels, Seven Wonders of China and The Great Wall. Besides the on-air campaign, joint on-ground marketing activities have been planned in Australia, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore to showcase HD audio and images. HD Discovery programming will be shown on Samsung’s HDTV sets at retail outlets across Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand, while Blu-Ray discs containing Discovery HD shows as starter kits are also available at retail outlets. In addition, consumers will stand a chance to win Samsung HD LCD TV sets by logging on to the newly enhanced HD website at www.samsunghdworld.com and participating in online competitions throughout the year.
