Hong Kong – Malaysia’s Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) and National Film Development Corporation’s (FINAS) third major participation in Hong Kong FILMART in 2008 saw the delegation of 28 Malaysian producers of TV and film, animation, and mobile content secure co-production and content deals in access of RM40million (US$13.5million). In the first two days of the event, the Malaysian Pavilion saw 100 business meetings organized in collaboration with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the Finanziaria Laziale di Sviluppo (FILAS) of Italy. Six deals involving Malaysian firms were signed following MDeC and FILAS’ MoU for bilateral development of creative industries in both territories and new business opportunities in Asia. Kuala Lumpur International Film Festival (KLIFF) signed a deal to partner with the World Content Market of Prague in exchange activities and participation in each other’s events. Malaysia’s Cartoon4Kids and China’s Creative Power Entertaining inked an agreement to co-develop and produce 3D and 2D animation series, both 13×30′. Marcera Technology and Bubble Mon Licensing (HK) partnered to distribute the latter’s video clips and wallpapers in Malaysia and other South East Asian countries, as well as to co-develop mobile games based on Bubble Mon Licensing characters. Film Point and Italian production firm Orisa Produzioni will co-produce three feature films including Terror of Naples, Little Eagle, and Lost Village. FrameMotion Studio signed a deal with an undisclosed Italian partner to co-produce a virtual reality program, a 3D animated TV series, and several Italian TV commercials. The company also concluded an agreement with China’s Beijing Donghai International Movie & TV Culture to jointly produce a 3D animated TV series.
