3 Screen Solutions (3SS), a leading provider of software solutions for set-top boxes (STB), smart TV, multiscreen and in-vehicle entertainment, today announced that Viaplay Group has deployed and launched a new, next-generation STB user experience for its flagship super-aggregated entertainment service, Allente.
Live since early August, the new Allente UX is powered by the latest design, technology and innovation of 3SS’ award-winning 3Ready Platform.
Allente’s subscribers can enjoy a new, modern TV experience that addresses the rising needs for on-demand viewing across multiple services, including local and global streamers. Simultaneously, the new UI/UX supports devotees of live TV by providing new and faster ways to discover their desired broadcasts and shows.
Allente is the Nordic region’s pre-eminent pay-TV provider, serving customers across Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. Viaplay Group became the sole owner of Allente in 2025 by purchasing Telenor’s 50% stake for SEK 1.1 billion.
To deliver the new viewing experience, Viaplay is offering Allente subscribers a powerful new 4 TOPS NPU AI set-top box from SDMC, along with an innovative customisable remote control from t4h. (Tech4home) seamlessly integrated with the 3Ready Framework and Control Center.
“Through our close collaboration with 3SS, and the capabilities of the 3Ready platform, alongside state-of-the-art technology from SDMC and t4h., we’re delivering true hardware and user experience innovation, and Allente customers can benefit from a modern service that’s fast, stable and user-friendly,” said Philip Wågnert. EVP Chief Technology & Product Officer Viaplay Group.
Allente subscribers can now enjoy a range of user experience innovations from 3SS including new profile-based Experience Modes that fulfil the unique viewing needs of live TV, on-demand content consumption, and children’s viewing.
“When designing a TV product, there’s always the dilemma of trying to determine for which main audience you’re really optimising the menu structure, content and discovery,” explains Pierre Donath, Chief Product & Marketing Officer at 3SS, adding: “How do you serve both the traditional live TV audience and streaming-first viewers without compromising on either?”
To solve this challenge, 3SS has launched new 3Ready Experience Modes, each of which is created to meet the needs of these distinct audience groups.
In Live TV Mode, the service opens directly on the last watched channel, preserving the familiar live TV experience and effortless channel surfing that traditional television viewers value most.
In On Demand Mode, the service opens directly on the home screen, providing immediate access to recently used streaming services and allowing viewers to continue watching where they left off.
Furthermore, a dedicated Kids Mode offers a safe, simple experience for younger family members. Kids Mode offers a smaller pool of content, all of which is age-appropriate since unsuitable programming is pre-filtered out, all delivered within a simplified and fun interface.
Third-party services are seamlessly integrated into the Allente experience, giving customers fast access and simple activation for a wide range of streaming services and TV channels available through Allente, including among others Viaplay, Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, HBO Max and SkyShowtime.
Users can directly activate services on-device through Allente and have the possibility to discover and bookmark all content in one place.
The new Allente platform introduces a range of other UX innovations designed to make navigation faster, simpler and more engaging. A redesigned zapping and TV guide experience allows viewers to browse live TV without interrupting what they’re watching. Ambient colours extend on-screen content into the surrounding interface to create a richer, more immersive visual experience, while picture-in-picture on the home screen ensures viewers never lose sight of live TV or VOD while exploring new content.
The new SDMC DV9865 AI box runs on the latest Android TV 14 Operator Tier OS, and features an Amlogic S905X5-J SoC and ARM Quad 64-bit CPU. Notably, it also includes a Neural Processing Unit (NPU), a specialised hardware accelerator designed to run artificial intelligence and machine learning tasks on the device itself.
Viaplay has chosen the Notus L12 programmable smart remote control unit (RCU) from t4h. for the next-gen Allente offering. The Notus L12 puts subscribers’ favourite entertainment directly in their hands: a single button press takes viewers straight into the streaming services they love, with no menus and no searching. Now, this direct access comes with a powerful new customisation capability. Subscribers can configure up to four buttons with shortcuts of their own choosing, shaping the remote around their personal viewing habits. Integrated with 3Ready Control Center, the solution gives Allente and its customers the freedom to personalise the experience over time, transforming the remote from a static device into a software-defined customer touchpoint.
“This launch shows what becomes possible when hardware and software innovation move together. Working with 3SS and Viaplay, we have turned the remote control into a genuinely personal part of the entertainment experience. With the Notus L12, Allente subscribers hold a device that adapts to how they watch, not the other way around,” said Graça Cândido, Co-Founder & Commercial Director at t4h. (Tech4home).
“Allente has always stood at the forefront of harnessing technology innovation to delight its customers, and this launch raises the bar yet again,” says Donath. “By empowering viewers to shape and personalise their own entertainment experiences, Allente is serving loyal TV viewers and also meeting the needs of streaming-first subscribers, all with a single product.”
This launch marks the latest milestone in a partnership with 3SS that has driven Allente’s entertainment technology innovation dating back to 2018 (Canal Digital). Allente was formed in 2020 as a 50/50 joint venture between Canal Digital and Viasat Consumer.
Today, 3SS technology powers Allente services across LG and Samsung smart TVs, Android TV, Apple TV, iOS and Android mobile devices, as well as hybrid DVB-S and OTT set-top boxes. 3SS technology also drives Allente’s B2B hospitality TV services.
