CNN International has announced that Sylvie Zhuang has joined the company as Senior China Reporter based in its Asia-Pacific headquarters in Hong Kong. As Senior China Reporter, Zhuang is tasked with bringing an on-the-ground understanding of China for an international audience. Her reporting will cover a wide portfolio, touching upon everything from politics to tech, business and society – delivering editorial content for all of CNN’s platforms.

Before joining CNN, Zhuang was a Senior Reporter on the China desk for the South China Morning Post, where she extensively covered China’s government and diplomacy. Her stories have included tracing the growing US-China rivalry, Beijing’s signature anti-corruption drive, along with the latest developments of the Chinese military. Her reporting has also explored how the thinking of the Chinese leadership has come to shape the country with both domestic and global implications. She previously worked as a researcher for international organizations including the World Bank and Asian Development Bank.

Zhuang completed her Bachelor of Arts in Communications at The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and obtained a Master of Arts in Public Policy and Social Service Administration from The University of Chicago.
