Multiplay service revenue in India to grow at 4.2% CAGR during 2024-2029, forecasts GlobalData

April 11, 2025 by TVA Editor

Multiplay service revenue in India is expected to grow at a steady compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.2% from $2.4 billion in 2024 to $3 billion in 2029, in line with the continued growth in the number of multiplay households, forecasts GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

The ongoing fiber-optic network expansions by operators and the subsequent increase in the coverage and availability of high-speed broadband services will continue to encourage the customers to opt for multiplay service bundles that provide access to wider service options with potential cost savings.

GlobalData’s research reveals that doubleplay service bundles accounted for 78.4% share of the total multiplay households in 2024, followed by tripleplay with 12.2% and quadplay bundles with 9.4% share.

Sarwat Zeeshan, Telecom Analyst at GlobalData, says: “Doubleplay services is currently the largest multiplay service category, by subscriber base in India with all major operators – Airtel, Jio and BSNL bundling unlimited telephony along with their basic fibre broadband plans. For example, Reliance Jio bundles unlimited voice telephony with its dual play plans offering unlimited data with up to 30Mbps speed starting from INR399 per month.”

While doubleplay service segment will retain largest subscriber base among all the multiplay service categories through the forecast period, its share in the total multiplay households will gradually drop as the adoption of tripleplay and quadplay services gain traction.

Tripleplay subscriptions will especially grow at a faster rate i.e., at 16.6% CAGR over the forecast period as the large pay-TV subscriber base in India opt for service bundles combining pay-TV with broadband internet connectivity and unlimited voice calling.

Major service providers in the country have also been offering discounts and promoting complementary access to popular OTT applications to promote the adoption of their triple play service bundles. For instance, Bharti Airtel’s 699 Black plan is a combo of DTH, fiber and landline, offering unlimited data at up to 40Mbps speed for Fiber connection, DTH TV channels worth Rs 260, subscription to 18+ OTT apps including JioHotstar and Airtel Xstream, and unlimited calls to any network on landline.

Zeeshan concludes: “Reliance Jio led the multiplay market in terms of household subscriptions in 2024, followed by Bharti Airtel. Jio’s leadership in the multiplay services market is primarily due to its widespread fiber optic network coverage and a large fiber broadband subscriber base, which allows them to quickly transition them to multiplay service bundles.”
