Mandarin series “Venus On Mars” produced by CJ ENM Hong Kong, supported by Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) is set to premiere this 28 September on several streaming platforms and free to air channels in Asia.
Previously, CJ ENM HK and IMDA announced their collaboration for 3 Mandarin series namely: “Venus On Mars”, “Deep End” and “Hungry Souls”. This collaboration with IMDA through the Capability Partnership Programme is to encourage cross-national production houses, directors, actors and script writers to work collaboratively.
In conjunction with the upcoming mid-autumn festival long holidays; Venus On Mars will kickstart the release of 6 episodes in one go on OTT platforms for audiences to binge watch and staggered episodes on TV channels.
The series premieres on 28 September 2023 on Taiwan’s Far EasTone Telecom OTT streaming platform – FriDay Video; Chung Hwa Telecom, IPTV platform – MOD and OTT platform – Hami Video; China’s OTT platform – Youku; Singapore’s Singtel TV GO and CAST.sg. It will also be available in Cambodia on free to air channel – PNN TV and OTT – PNN Plus and coming soon to Hong Kong, Malaysia and other countries.
Venus On Mars also held its ‘Drama Premiere Press Conference’ in Taipei on 19 September. The press conference was attended by Managing Director of CJ ENM Hong Kong, Michael Jung, Senior Vice President Mickey Ong together with the two main cast Tsao Yu Ning and Ivy Shao in the presence of many local press.
During the press conference, both Tsao Yu Ning and Ivy Shao shared that they are thrilled to see this drama premiere on many platforms across Asia.
Tsao shared: “I played two roles in this drama, namely Ben and Benson. It was really challenging for me because both roles carry really different personas. Besides my role, there are many fun elements in this drama that I am sure audience will relate to.”
Ivy also expressed: “I cannot imagine myself to be the only girl left in the universe. It will be so stressful, but I think Venus did a good job in the drama, so it’s definitely a drama that is worth a watch this mid-autumn festival!”
Besides starring Tsao Yu Ning and Ivy Shao, the series also stars Wes Lo from Taiwanese boy band SpeXial; veteran actors Renzo Liu, Gina Lim and Singaporean actor Wong Jinglun. The series is produced by Mocha Chai Laboratories’ managing partner, Michelle Chang with one of Singapore’s most prolific and award-winning filmmakers, Chai Yee Wei as director. Producers at CJ ENM Korea acted as script consultants.
Venus On Mars was shot in Taiwan in collaboration with award-winning veteran Taiwanese producer, Phil Tang (Monomyth Films) and written by writer Huang Yu Chia.
The story follows a high concept sci-fi, romantic comedy about an undergraduate student who is accidentally transported into a parallel world where there are only men. In this new world where she is the only female, Weina re-evaluates her own thoughts on feminism, gender equality, life, and love.
The other 2 dramas – “Deep End” and “Hungry Souls” will be launched in the last quarter of 2023. Platforms will be announced later.
