Asia’s on-demand video streaming service iQiyi has announced the global launch of The Wind Blows From Longxi (风起陇西), the streamer’s tentpole drama of the year, to premiere worldwide on April 27.
Adapted from a popular novel of the same name by People’s Literature Prize winner Ma Boyong, the drama series features a stellar lineup of creators and cast including Director Lu Yang, writers Jin Haishu and Jin Yu, and lead cast Chen Kun, Bai Yu, Nie Yuan, Angelababy, and Sun Yi, along with the award-winning production team behind Brotherhood of Blades and The Wasted Times.
The Wind Blows From Longxi takes place during the Three Kingdoms era in China, telling the story of two small-fry characters on the secret intelligence line – Chen Gong (played by Chen Kun) and Xun Xu (played by Bai Yu). The drama series focuses on the perspectives of characters deemed unimportant in their surroundings, and blends their destinies together in a spy war taking place in a period setting.
Director Lu Yang hopes that The Wind Blows From Longxi is able to “find a microscopic and precise view into the era for the audience to better understand the lives and surroundings of the characters.”
In the trailer, we see Chen Gong (Chen Kun), the “White Emperor” of the Shu Kingdom’s spy network, fighting alone in the enemy camp, where he faces the threat of his identity being revealed. Xun Xu (Bai Yu) has received orders to investigate a traitor in his camp. Pit against each other, the mysteries surrounding the two spies are intertwined.
iQiyi’s original Chinese drama The Wind Blows from Longxi will be available on iQiyi streaming platforms (www.iq.com) starting April 27.
