Sophie Ferron, President and Founder of award-winning format production and distribution company Media Ranch, announced the company’s Fall slate which will premiere at MIPCOM. Media Ranch will be attending MIPCOM this year in person, and Tanja van der Goes, SVP will be hosting a MIPCOM session on Tuesday, October 12 titled How to Make a Format Travel.
Media Ranch is showcasing four new formats:
– Love Van, whose creation resulted from the globally known format incubator, Horsepower, this year’s third edition was produced in association with TF1, Québecor Content La Fabrique des Formats. The show follows singles as they find love on a cross-country rally in their livable vans. Will they stick with their original travel partners or replace them with people they find along the way?
– Match Made in Heaven, a fun astrological dating show format from Media Ranch’s exclusive DR (Danish Broadcasting) portfolio
– The Tower, a unique talk-show covering current topics, interspersed with scripted skits, which recently won several of Canada’s Prix Gémeaux Awards
– Dining with the Enemy, a particularly relevant travel-cooking documentary format show where a chef and a journalist enter a warzone or conflict area to cook a special meal inspired by local culture for people of opposing side, bringing them together over dinner.
Other formats on offer are: DR format All About Animals, a primetime family quiz show with celebrities that is all about animals; Pop The Jam, a new music reality show where up-and-coming music stars meet and jam with their idols; Flea Fight, a competition where two expert design teams with a limited budget shop at flea markets, and must create the most value out of their findings; Things My Father Failed to Teach Me, a heartwarming reality show where a celebrity returns to his hometown to learn skills from his father like hunting, harvesting, construction, and even how to cook.
South Korea’s FormatEast paper format Honey in the Box is The Newlywed Game meets Deal or No Deal: contestants ask questions to find their partner hidden amongst 50 ‘Honeys,’ wearing illuminated boxes on their heads; and a format currently in production in Italy, titled Boiling Point. It is a cooking quiz show where the contestants must win ingredients or steal them from opponents by answering food-related questions. Only genuine foodies win!
