Prestige skincare brand SK-II has always been rooted in its brand purpose #CHANGEDESTINY, to inspire the world that destiny is not a matter of chance, but a matter of choice. As the world emerges from unprecedented times, issues and pressures that women are facing have never been more prevalent. The need to overcome them never more urgent. In light of this, SK-II has launched its first-ever film studio division and content hub – SK-II STUDIO – dedicated to taking on social pressures impacting women today through the power of film and storytelling.
On 29th March 2021, SK-II STUDIO released its very first film The Center Lane that spotlights the inspiring, destiny-changing story of Japanese swimmer Rikako Ikee as she returns to competitive swimming after overcoming leukaemia in 2019. This debut SK-II STUDIO film is created in partnership with award-winning director Hirokazu Koreeda in his iconic humanist style using a mix of live documentary and animation to shed light on Ikee’s inner thoughts, struggles and hopes as she trains for her competitive comeback. The film is the first of eight SK-II STUDIO films set to be released in 2021.
Alongside SK-II STUDIO, the brand is also launching a #CHANGEDESTINY fund, which will contribute $1 for every audience view of SK-II STUDIO in support of women pursuing their destiny. This is part of the brand’s commitment to its #CHANGEDESTINY brand purpose this year.
