Yahoo TV has launched Season 2 of Singlish with Uncle Gwee to help Singaporeans understand our favourite phrases and their history as well as how to use Singlish better.
Season 1 has seen Uncle Gwee take on Singlish uses of common English words such as “can”, “what”, “then”, and “how”. Season 2 will have him explain the context and application of popular words and phrases used in the office such as “arrow”, “wayang”, “pattern more than badminton”, and “cannot make it”.
Uncle Gwee, also known as the Singlish Professor, is a poet, graphic artist, literary critic, and a former academic in literature. In this web series, he endeavours to educate his audience on his favourite topic – the uniquely Singaporean Singlish.
Episode 1 will air on 17 July, and it will explore Singlish’s version of the word “arrow”, with a focus on its usage in the workplace.
