PARIS – France TV Distribution and France TV Studio have launched the video-on-demand and international distribution of Chronicles of the Sun, the new daily drama from France 2. After beginning shooting last spring in the south of France, in studios as well as outdoor sites, the new daily drama series premiered on 24 August, in access primetime at 8:40pm.
France TV Distribution distributes on VOD the show produced by France TV Studio (former MFP), the production company of France Télévisions wholly dedicated to the group. After the first broadcast, the drama series is now available on VOD on several partner platforms.
Also distributed on the international stage by France TV distribution, the program will be launched during TV France International’s flagship market event Le Rendez-vous, that aims to promote French programs in the global market. The 24th edition will take place in Biarritz this year from September 9 to 13, with a closing party dedicated to Chronicles of the Sun.
Chronicles of the Sun (235 x 26min) details the journey of Claire who travels back to Montpellier with her teenage son, Theo, after a 17-year absence. Her return from Africa is motivated by her need to reveal the existence of a family to Theo, and to enroll him in high school. But most importantly, Claire has arranged a meeting with a childhood friend who has information regarding her sister’s disappearance. But Claire finds this friend murdered, and ends up accused of the crime and taken into custody.
Forty characters are interwoven into these tales of family, love, drama, contemporary destiny and everyday life, set in the south of France, in the modern, dynamic, seaside city of Montpellier.
Chronicles of the Sun is directed by Benoît d’Aubert and Chris Nahon. The cast includes Mélanie Maudran, Valérie Kaprisky, Moïse Santamaria, Jérémy Banster, Emma Colberti, Gary Guénaire, Gabrielle Lazure and Fred Bianconi. The series is produced by France TV Studio in collaboration with Epeios Productions.
Julien Verley, Chief Executive Officer of France TV Distribution and of France TV Studio, commented: “We are proud to offer a project quite this ambitious. Chronicles of the Sun, an original creation by France Télévisions, echoes our society, it’s modern and dynamic. Our objective is to make it live beyond a linear broadcasting. Its VOD availability from August 28th allows everyone to keep up the experience and go on following the characters’ everyday life. The sales of French drama abroad, in growth for several years, predict the worldwide success the drama series is going to receive.”
