Servant Of The People, the hit comedy series from Kvartal 95 has been optioned for a French remake, while the original series will air in Korea. The series, which returns for a second season, has been a resounding success in Ukraine, and was turned in to a feature film in 2016. The first season has developed a cult following online, with many millions of viewers for its official uploads on Youtube, and has won positive reviews after arriving on Netflix earlier this year.
In Korea, the series will air on HQ Plus as the first ever foreign content for the channel. A channel dedicated to themes of happiness and family, the political comedy of Servant Of The People will add a new twist to the schedule when it airs in November.
In France, award-winning production company Elephant Story have taken an option on the scripts.
Kvartal 95 and international distributor Eccho Rights can now also confirm that the scripts have been picked up by Star Channel in Greece who will create their own version of the political comedy.
These deals are the latest examples of the enormous buzz generated in the international marketplace by this format, particularly following a script deal with Fox Studios in the US last year.
Nicola Söderlund, Managing Partner at Eccho Rights: “Servant of the People is a hilarious series but also a very relevant story for people all over the world. As political shifts are increasingly dictated by what people see on the internet, so the story becomes more and more relatable, and close to the reality that many of us are now living in!”
Servant Of The People tells the story of unlikely hero Vasily, a school teacher whose rambling rant about the failing politics of his homeland is caught on camera, goes viral, and ultimately sees him unwillingly voted President.
