Seoul, Korea – Asia’s leading content and media company CJ E&M announced its first performing artists of the upcoming 2017 MAMA(Mnet Asian Music Awards); Seventeen and Wanna One.
Seventeen is a thirteen-member boy group who debuted in 2015. The members are S.Coups, Woozi, Hoshi, Mingyu, Wonwoo, Vernon, Seungkwan, Dino, Jun, DK, Joshua, Jeonghan and The8. They are also active with three different sub-units: “Hip Hop Unit,” “Vocal Unit,” and “Performance Unit.”, and known as the “self-producing” idol group as the members are deeply involved in the composition and production of their discography and choreography. Their first EP 17 Carat became the longest-charting K-pop album of the year in the US and was the only rookie album to appear on Billboard‘s “10 Best K-pop Albums of 2015” chart. Since then, they have released one studio album Love&Letter (2016) and three more Eps; Boys Be (2015), Going Seventeen(2016), and A/1(2017).
Wanna One is an eleven-member boy group formed from CJ E&M’s music channel Mnet’s survival boy group reality show Produce101 Season2. The final members as well as group name were chosen by the public audience’s votes. The members who took top eleven in the final are Kang Daniel, Park Ji Hoon, Lee Dae Hwi, Kim Jae Hwan, Ong Seong Wu, Park Woo Jin, Lai Kuan Lin, Yoon Ji Sung, Hwang Min Hyun, Bae Jin Young, and Ha Sung Woon. Starting their promotion from August 2017, they released debut EP 1×1=1(To Be One)(2017) with their title songs; Energetic.
Under the new theme ‘Co-existence’, 2017 MAMA is set to take place at three different locations including Vietnam(Hoa Binh Theater, November 25th), Japan(Yokohama Arena , November 29th) and Hong Kong(AsiaWorld-Expo, Arena, December 1st). This year, MAMA will emphasize the importance of harmony among different cultures through extravagant performances with a star-studded line-up of international artists. As a part of the new theme, MAMA will also provide a platform for leading music industry experts to honor and share their insights for music at ‘2017 MAMA Professional Categories (November 30th, W Hong Kong)’.
